Weather intelligence for the future: Crafting a strategic enterprise approach to changing environmental conditions

The increasing severity and volatility of weather patterns are becoming impossible to overlook. Remarkably, 90% of people surveyed report being directly impacted by severe weather trends within the last two years. As people prepare for these weather events, more than half (52%) purchase energy sources like generators, backup power solutions, and power banks.1 With this in mind, EcoFlow recognized a critical need in the sustainable energy market. As an emerging leader in portable power solutions, the brand looked to boost product awareness to help people prepare for weather and power outages, particularly in the lead-up to and recovery of extreme weather events — when safety, preparedness, and recovery information are most crucial. EcoFlow was able to connect with consumers authentically to weather the storm when they needed support more than ever.

Powering through the storm
EcoFlow understood a fundamental human need: the desire for safety and preparedness in the face of nature. With that in mind, they positioned themselves as not just a product provider, but a reliable source of assistance during these challenging moments.
EcoFlow built a power-packed strategy leveraging data from the most accurate forecaster4 to serve dynamic messages on The Weather Channel app across the digital ecosystem. Understanding that people check the weather more often when severe weather is forecasted, they partnered with the world’s leading weather provider, which reaches more people than any other weather source.5
They combined Weather Targeting and the Integrated Marquee to connect with people as soon as they opened The Weather Channel app with a proactive preparedness message on the home screen — when they’d likely be in need of backup energy solutions before potential power outages.
To reach people with the preparedness message throughout their online journey beyond The Weather Channel app, the brand activated their campaign across The Trade Desk and Meta. This approach allowed EcoFlow’s message to remain relevant and meaningful to consumers, while also staying true to their overall brand purpose.

When preparedness generates brand love
When extreme weather posed a potential risk, EcoFlow found moments to help communities in need. With their preparedness messaging, the brand created affinity and loyalty to the tune of 8% lift in brand awareness.2 By also tapping into The Weather Company’s Campaign Intelligence — which measures cross-device attribution to inform effective, cookie-less, media optimization — they found 8.1x ROI on average, 14.7x ROI via Forecast Power Disruption Weather Targeting signal, and 2x higher conversion rate during the week following Hurricane Idalia’s landfall in 2023.3 The driving force: EcoFlow’s weather-driven marketing strategy, demonstrating the power of connecting consumers with safety and preparedness during severe weather.
